MSP is OK Representative for America Celebrates

The Middle School Art Club, led by Mrs. Frances Williams, was chosen as the school representative for Oklahoma to create Christmas ornaments for the National Christmas Tree America Celebrates display in President’s Park, Washington, D.C.  They were 1 of 56 selected schools across the country.

The ornaments will decorate one of fifty-six smaller trees surrounding the National Christmas tree; one tree for each state, territory, and the District of Columbia.  The display will begin on November 28, 2018 at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and continue through January 1, 2019.

Mrs. Williams has 21 middle school students and 2 high school students who created these one-of-a-kind ornaments.  Art club students worked countless hours decorating the 24 ornaments. They used multiple mediums such as clay, wool, paint, and beads.  They included numerous Oklahoma themed designs such as Native American symbols, a tornado, a buffalo, a scissortail, the state shield, and a redbud tree to decorate the ornaments, both inside and outside.

The school and art club will be recognized for their participation by a sign displaying the school name beside the state tree.  They will also be recognized on the National Christmas Tree website and in the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony program.  The school will receive a letter of recognition, photos of their ornaments on display, and a copy of the event program.

This was a great privilege and opportunity to showcase our students’ artistic abilities at the nation's capital.
